Guitare at 28?
I know I was supposed to have a new habit each month, but I just got to get used to the habit of February. Translating the Japanese mails I receive and read them again and again in the train every night in the train back to home! The result: It’s still very difficult. I simplified it. I only force myself to translate one very important dialogue per week, about 5 mails on the same topic. If I try to translate everything, I will spend all my time doing it and won’t have anytime to work anymore.
I still try to overview all the Japanese mails until I know which ones are just a waste of time. I realized I’m writing all mails intended to Japanese people in Japanese, which is great! I had the habit to practice writing Kanjis in the train in the morning, since I’m sitting. I stopped when I finished my book of first 700 Kanjis last September. On Saturday I bought my new book: all kanjis for Japanese Proficiency Test level 2, not including the easy 300 first ones. There are about 1000 Kanjis for this level, so 300 new in this book. I started this morning, and I’m quite happy to see it won’t be difficult to get this habit back!
February habit change objective: OK
What’s next? There is one habit I will definitely try absolutely not to lose: running 3-4 times a week! Unfortunately since last August, the necessary time to do a jogging in the evening is a rare resource. I always have the WE. So I just had to find at least one day among the week days. In 2009 it became almost impossible to run in the evening. So I started to arrive at the office later, one day per week to run in the morning.
Then I realized, even when I arrive at work at 10am, I’m still the second one in the open space. The other crazy one arrives at 7am. The official beginning and ending hours are 10h30 and 16h30, provided that people come earlier or stay later to do the daily 7 hours. Everyone arrives at 10h30 and leaves at… no time…
Why am I arriving at 9am or earlier, when they anyway ask me to stay until 8? Hmmmmm, I’m the stupid one. OK, I actually have time to do stuff in the morning! I can create new time slots for new habits or to adapt old habits. I will try to arrive at work at 10:30am every morning same as my colleagues!
On January 15th, I decided to start to learn guitar, something I always though I won’t be able to do because I didn’t started when I was 5. I played exactly 4 times before letting the instrument gather dust. I needed a time slot to play guitar and the evening is not an appropriate one. Even if I come back home earlier, I would rather spend time cooking that learning guitar.
What brings us to the next analysis!

March + April habit change objective: Creation of 2 new time slots by arriving at work at 10:30am every day: To do a jogging everyday at 7am and to learn guitar from 9 to 9:30am! I started last week, Thursday and Friday. So far, it works.
I still have my Japanese lessons on Tuesday morning at 9am and I have a meeting every week at 10am on Wednesday. I will try to kill the Wednesday meeting i.e. move it to 10h30am. But I will keep the Japanese lessons at the same time. It’s good to rest…
