Is what I’m doing leading me to what I want to be in 5 years?
I usually get inspiration for what I write here reading other blogs (isn’t what I just said obvious and stupid…). Let’s try this “getting perspective questions” of Glen Allsopp, guest-posted on Zenhabits
If someone had a video tape of your typical day, what would they see?
Based on your current actions and behaviors, where would you expect to be in five years?
Question 1: If someone had a video tape of your typical day, what would they see?
They would see me doing my Jogging, then practicing guitar for 20 minutes before leaving the house, not so much in a hurry to go to work. Then practicing my Japanese Kanjis in the train a book on my laps and a pen in my hand, sitting in front of my PC the whole day reading and typing mails, reports & minutes of meetings, conducting meetings. At 12h30 they would see me going to have lunch or buy lunch and have it in front of my PC reading blogs or websites. Eventually I would chat 5 minutes with a colleague. Again in the train, they would see me reading a book, printed stuff from blogs or websites, or typing on my laptop.
Arriving home I also have very standardized routine. whether I do some shopping, cook, eat, have Asako wash the dishes while I sit in front of my PC and skype friends or family, or let Asako cook, eat and wash the dishes before I sit in front of my PC and skype friends or family.
It’s not exactly as exciting as possible, but it’s very productive. However, who’s daily life is not productive?
What I’m I producing everyday, except to look busy on that video tape? This question is coming again and again. Does it help me to achieve my objective or not? AND Am I having fun on the paths I’m taking to reach my objectives?
The question I definitely NEED TO ASK MYSELF AND TRY TO ANSWER is: What are the FUN path FOR ME that I have to take to reach MY objectives?
Question 2: Based on your current actions and behaviors, where would you expect to be in five years?
I’m still in Japan in the same company (or not) with no change on my love life: still with my girl friend. I have more savings, I speech much better Japanese. In my professional life, I have a better position (or not, we’re in Japan and I’m just 28), I still spend too much time at work and loose the taste for my so-called stupid geek things that I like (or used to love): video games, animation moves, PC-high-tech-geek-nerd stuff…
OK, if I face the truth, my current actions won’t lead me to have kids in the near future nor getting married soon, buying a house need Paris and preparing for investing in a house in Japan too. Getting back in touch with my Iranian origins. Make a road trip around IRAN, learn to play tar, add a third category “Farsi” in this blog.
I getting a little bit nervous writing this. First because I don’t have a clear view of what I want it to look like… Actually, I do… it’s written above. I’m getting nervous because, I am scared seeing that I’m not as efficient as I should.
Development
I like to say, that the actions I’m doing are designed to lead me where I want/hope/dream to be in 5 years! In other words the second question can be transformed into : “Are the actions you are doing, successful enough to lead to where you want/hope/dream to be in 5 years?”
Today: NO
Again, same question: What are the FUN path FOR ME that I have to take to reach MY objectives? (Objectives mentioned above)
To be continued, all my life…

Great thought line! Our dreams are achieved step by step. Taking steps an inch at a time is what makes us ultimately achieve our goals. However, it is not only about taking steps but most important taking the right ones. i trash out issues like this in my blog http://kilankooluwaseun.wordpress.com
One could be working hard to gather trash, you know, since he doesn’t know the right steps to take.
Work well done!

Right ! The right steps… What are they?
It looks obvious afterwards but in the thick of the action, being busy, getting any result just feel like progressing in the right way.
… Unless you stop running for a second, open your eyes and see that you missed the bend…
